Recording

While the word has a solid definition, it has taken on different nuances over the years. Our modern day definitions is: capture a performance onto a digital medium, using special purpose hardware and software to transform the data.

Performance

Since an instrument can send MIDI or audio these days, we say we’re capturing a performance. With MIDI there is some increased flexibility in post production but modern software has greatly enhanced what we can do with audio, too. At out studio, we have no preference for how you want to perform, as long as we have the hardware to capture it.

Digital Media

We store performances on a SSD. A fairly standard approach, it allows the data to be read and written quite quickly compared to the old platter days. We are also able to transfer the data to most external hard or flash drive (assuming there’s room). You own everything you record with us.

Multiple Input

We have the ability to record audio with up to twelve input channels mixed down to four output channels going into the DAWS. This allows up to four musicians to record together as long as no one is using a microphone. Because of our layout, we record microphone takes one at a time so as to avoid bleed over from other parts.

Hand Off

After the recording, the usual next task is to mix the track. We can do that or you can take the reigns at this point. We give you all of the digital assets created during the recording for your later usage and archiving. Please bring an external storage device with a few gigabytes of available space.
